From McGarvey, J.W., Sermons delivered in Louisville, Kentucky (Cincinnati: Standard Publishing Company, no date), first published 1894. A sermon delivered by J.W. McGarvey at the Broadway Christian Church, Lexington, KY, 11 June 1893. J.W. (John William) McGarvey (1829-1911) was one of the leading ministers and religious educators of the American Restoration Movement.
McGarvey looks at Paul's attempt to convert Antonius Felix, then procurator of Judea, to Christianity (Acts 24). Though he is the one on trial, instead of offering a defense Paul directly confronts the sinful past of Felix. Felix is moved to conviction of his sins, but tragically is unwilling to face the decision before him and avoids it through procrastination.
